Hi,
Answer 1 Accord 1.5+ will run on either DNN version 4.5+ or 5.2.1+. Accord 2.x will require DNN 5.2.1+.
So your planned upgrade order will work fine: - First upgrade DNN to 5.2.1+. Accord LMS 1.5+ will follow the DNN upgrade without a problem. - Then upgrade Accord LMS to 2.x+.
Answer 2 You go through the standard module installation process - whether a new install or an update. As with any module install however, a site backup before you start is standard operating procedure.
Answer 3 There is only one substantial difference between the two DNN platforms at this time. In DNN 4 if you delete a user or he unsubscribes he is permanently deleted along with any associated roles. Any Accord LMS reports that reference that user will simply return "Deleted Learner" without any additional information. In DNN 5 the user and all his roles associates are kept in tact. There is only a logical "inactive" field in the user record that is set. This allows all the reports based on user and role filtering to be preserved within the Accord LMS. As we move forward we will utilize more of DNN 5's potential.
Answer 4 No data will be lost. All content, Learner records and configurations will be carried forward.
Answer 5 Your license will not be affected, it does not need to be updated and will continue to operate as issued.
Answer 6 Telerik controls, and their required DLLs, are utilized by many third party DNN modules including the Accord LMS. Currently it is somewhat of a free for all concerning the DLL versions - each vendor must supply the current Telerik DLL version that they are building their product against (if they use the Telerik controls). Overwrites in the /bin folder are problematic due to different possible versions used by the Vendors, different versions of the Vendors products AND the DLLs are strongly signed.
The good news is that with DNN version 5.2.1+ the Telerik DLL is shipped with the DNN installation package (about 5 MBytes in size). Now vendors to do not have to include the Telerik DLL in their own installation package and Telerik DLL overwrites are not going to be a problem. In addition, 5.2.1+ includes a bindingRedirect statement in the web.config file which will redirect all Telerik DLL requests to a single version of the DLL that ships with DNN.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks, Chris
